All of the images in this gallery were inspired by my love of reading. The series began at the suggestion of my friend Helen Bronisz, who overheard some neighbors disparaging her favorite pastime with the words "She Reads."

About the Images

The work in this series includes both hand- and machine-applique, along with hand- and machine- quilting. The fabrics used include hand-dyed and commercially produced cottons and silks.

I paint the faces with pastels and crayons, and often use applique for the eyes. I love the way each figure has a different mood, yet each of these readers is in his or her own private world..
